The Ranch

Raw land, a dead oak, and a lot of quiet.

Dead Oak Ranch is forty acres of granite, mesquite, prickly pear and spring wildflowers in Llano County. Cattle graze it. Deer and hogs cross it at night. The last two miles in are ranch road, which is exactly why nothing out here sounds like town.

There is one building: a two-story solar shed with a recording studio downstairs and an office upstairs. Power comes from the sun and a battery bank. Water comes from our own well. That's the whole operation, and that's the point.

The Solar Shed

Two stories, off the grid, built for sound.

The shed runs entirely on solar and batteries, so you get real power with no generator hum. Downstairs is the recording studio. Upstairs is an office with a deck looking out over the brush. It is finished nicely inside and deliberately simple everywhere else.

Good to know

Read this before you ask. It saves us both an email.

  • No bathroom. No shower.

The shed is a roof, power and water, not a cabin rental. Plan accordingly, and tell us if that's a deal-breaker before you book.

  • Well water

Water is from our own well. It's fine for washing and cooking. If you're particular about drinking water, bring your own.

  • Two miles of ranch road

Rocky, rutted and muddy after rain. High clearance recommended. A low sedan will have a bad time. Allow extra time in and out.

  • One group per night

If someone is staying in the shed, nobody else hunts that night, and the other way around. Your own party can do both.

  • Hunting is nights only

Feral hogs, booked by the night, sunset to sunrise. You bring your own license, gear and know-how. [HUNT RULES / FIREARM POLICY].

  • Requests, not instant bookings

You ask, we check the calendar and reply within [48 hours]. Nothing is held until we confirm it.
